OVERVIEW

Approximately 85 Million family are pet owners .Once the pandemic shut down businesses and forced schools to go virtual, even more Americans added a pet to their households. Nearly 1 in 5 households acquired a dog or cat. But during research , I find out that adoption pet process is complicated and many pet owners complain that websites and app are not functioning right . Through this self-initiated project , I want to design an app that can simplify the process of adopting a pet. Also help shelters, to speed up the Process of helping pets find their perfect home.

Dog Adoption App

Challenge

Most users complain that the adoption process is took a long time, and too complicated.

The user also says that some apps did not update correctly, the pets that they want to adapt are always not available, and this frustrates the user.

The user also says that they need set an appointment of a house tour for pets.Sometimes the appointment does not always work out .

The pets only can see base on photos, and sometimes shelters do not update their photos, and information. Also users can not interact with the pets, and if they need to visually see the dogs they need set an appointment and drive hours to visit the shelter.

Goal

My goal was to design an app to improve user experiences and make product more attractive and simple to use for Users .

Also help shelter attract more new users speed up adoption process .

Also build An additional  features  for use such as be able communication ,
find lock services , training tips and resources .

My Solution

I create wireframe and HI-FI UI and prototype to address those 4  category to improve the user experience

  • Search Page
  • Facetime Features
  • Speed up application
  • Support Features

My Role

Market
Research

Roughly 6.5 million animals enter shelters each year but only 3.2 million are adopted

Approximately 85 million families are pet owners.

28% of dogs and 31% of cats are adopted out of shelters each year.

In 2020, people spent $99 billion on their pets. (According to PetPedia)

96% of Americans report a moral duty to protect animals and states should support laws that do so.

Competitive
Analysis

I researched Petfinder, We Rescue, Pet Adopter, etc.

I was particularly interested in learning how existing app products are tackling the adoption process.

I find all those app have issue of design the simple process . There aren’t have tracking information for adoption Process .

Also They only have image of pet . You can not visually See the size , personality , activity of pet .

That could be the issue find the perfect pets For user . The also don’t have availability, updated information and recommendation base on interest features .

Those give us opportunity to design better products .

User
Persona

I conduct interview with couple friends who interested adopt the pet , I learn from user senarios , challenges , carefully pay attention to user Journeys . all those reasearch help me to learn more user’s pain point and challenges .

User Jorney

I Created the user flow to follow Sarah’s experiences .(browsing the listings of adoptable dogs in her area, using the app’s filters to narrow down the search.

Sarah submits the application .Sarah continues to use the app as a resource and reference as she raises and cares for her new dog, sharing updates and photos of the pet’s progress and development.

I Pay attention to user’s behavior and motivation , pain point . Try to make this app user experience is seamless .

Conclusion

Through this project, I gained valuable insights into adopting a comprehensive approach towards project development.

This involved delving into business strategies, conducting thorough market research, and analyzing competitor dynamics. Additionally, I emphasized understanding real-world user scenarios to refine our design strategies effectively.

By utilizing data to evaluate the app's success, we were able to ascertain the tangible impact of our design on users' lives. This process also underscored the importance of maintaining a flexible approach, allowing us to iteratively improve our product based on user feedback.

This experience has been instrumental in broadening my perspective on project management and design implementation in a dynamic market environment.
